Last month Maldives Dictator Golhaabo said in one of his addresses that the ratification of the constitution will be the fastest process of all implying that he will do so quite swiftly. However, as time goes, we are noticing that he is not very keen on it and has obviously requested certain changes to be made, including immunity from prosecution. Now we are hearing that the election deadline might even be extended to allow Golhaabo to fiddle with the constitution. read & comment

Male' - The Maldives Dictator has increased the salaries and allowances of his close circle officials by 60% reports say. Ministers will now get Mrf 42,500, State Ministers Mrf 32,000 and Deputy Ministers pay will get Mrf 20,500. In addition to this, they will also get a 15,000 allowance on top of the salary. This is typical of the Dictator as this increase in salary for his close circle is totally out of proportion to what an average Maldivian earns, which is in the range of Mrf 2000 - 4000 as an average monthly salary. Most people have to get part time jobs to make ends meet. In addition to the ministers, the Dictator's advisors, including his brother Hameed, will get a Minister's pay. They were supposed to have been relieved of their ministerial duties but are still very much in the game. The Dictator has one of the largest cabinets in the world. 20 ministers, 13 state ministers and 44 deputy ministers. In addition, there are 5 special advisors and 3 ambassadors who are paid a minister's salary. Total monthly payout to the Dictator's top cronies is a staggering 3.783 million rufiyaa (approx. 295,000 US Dollars a month).
