Hussain Saeed has been removed from his post as Addu atoll chief, and made chief of Malé atoll, following the shock cabinet resignation of his brother, former Attorney General Dr Hassan SaeedThe move is effectively a demotion. The Malé atoll office does not oversee the capital. It also moves Hussain Saeed away from the family’s power base in Addu. Moosa Rameez, an Atolls Ministry official has taken temporary charge of Addu, meaning a government loyalist will head the atoll office during the forthcoming constitutional referendum.
