Two lawyers witnessed police officers beating a detainee on Saturday night, and have submitted formal complaints to Police HQ, the Attorney General's Office and the Maldives Human Rights Commission. Ahmed Shafeeq and Imthiyaz Fahmi were visiting Atoluvehi police holding station just before 10pm on Saturday when they saw "eight or nine policemen surrounding a detainee who was lying on the ground."
