The hunger striking inmates of Maafushi prison have said they will sign a government offer and call off their strike, if Ahmed Mujtabha and Shaheed Zaki are taken to the island to observe the agreement. The government has so far refused to comment on the demands, but no contact has been made with Shaheed Zaki. When inmates made the same demand on Monday, the government responded with an operation to end the hunger strike by force. more
