Anni Banned From Majlis

Mohamed Nasheed (Anni), Chairman of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has been banned from attending the next four meetings of the People’s and Special Majlis, the legislatures of the Maldives, reports Haveeru.Anni’s MDP colleagues, Shadow Defence Minister Ameen Faisal and Mohamed Ziyad have also been banned. The decision comes after the three men protested inside the Special Majlis on 9 April after the session was suspended as the Speaker refused to hold a debate on setting the voting age for the referendum on style of government at eighteen. “Mohamed Nasheed had been shouting around the corridor and had stood up on one of the chairs,” said Ahmed Mohamed, Secretary General of the People’s Majlis. He also suggested the ban may be linked to Anni’s past protests in and outside the Majlis building. “We took into consideration all the incidents before coming up with the decision.”
